Review: iScope

Description: A flashlight and reaching tool
Main Pitch: "The amazing, extendable all-purpose tool that's more than just a flashlight"
Main Offer: $14.95 for one
Bonus: 2nd one (free)
Marketer: Emson (Bell + Howell)
Website: www.BuyiScope.com
Prediction: Unlikely to succeed

I've been down this road three times before, and it's a dead end.

[Self-criticism: I said the same thing about Grout Bully. Turns out it wasn't a dead end at all. But then I'd only been down that particular road twice, and not for a while. Not a great excuse, but there it is.]

Back to this test, I can't figure out the new online offer. It's $10 with no bonus, so no extra S&H. They do spend a lot of time teasing the deluxe upgrade, but if people don't go for it, I can't see how they will get the average sale into a viable range? One to watch perhaps.

  3. It is $14.95 plus $6.95 shipping and handling for the first one. So it's really $21.90. Then you get the FREE one which you have to pay an additional $6.95 shipping and handling for. You cannot opt out of accepting this FREE additional iscope. So your really not getting anything for FREE because the total cost adds up to $28.85, divide this by 2 and it comes out to $14.42 per iscope. Do you think we are stupid?

    1. Unless you really have to have 2, go to Ebay and get 1 for like 20 bucks with free shipping and save yourself 9 dollars.

  4. I was all excited and ready to buy it. Then I went to the site to purchase it. To my dismay, not only were the s & h charges a whopping $6.96 but there was an add S&h charge of $6.95 for the free one! What I originally was excited was a great deal, all of a sudden was not so great! Bummer! Not worth it after all! Free is supposed to mean Free Guys! $6.95 is not free!

  5. I have been thinking about buying one of these (make that 2 since one's not an option).
I went to the website and they offered a deluxe version, but don't say what the difference is. Having read the other posts, I'm going to put it off until I see one of each type.

    1. The difference is...the deluxe version has a one foot longer extention.

  6. I think this kind of stuff clearly shows how much lies and deceit have become the norm in our society. Instead of just being honest and offering the device for $15 they instead give this song and dance about getting one free untill you get to the final stage where they stick it to you with some absurd s&h fee times two. On the bright side these things typically turn up at CVS or Wal-Mart after while.

  7. I was ready to place an order (Christmas presents). But, no where in the comments do I read what purchasers think of this item and I would like to know what they think before I buy.

  8. I guess if you strictly only want one then I can see the point of the above commenters, but I was planning on buying two anyway, one for me, one for my father (who loves gadgety flashlights). If you're willing to pay $15 for one, what's the big deal about paying $14.50 for two? There's always a need for another flashlight, or a gift to give to someone. Assuming this thing is built decently and not a piece of junk, I think it will be a good addition to my toolbox. I'm looking forward to getting it in the mail (it shipped about 2 weeks after my order).

  9. Just saw on TV and thought I was buying two with the extender as advertised. Just took me though additional offerings and at the end they are shipping me ONE for a whopping $14.94 + 13.90 for a total of $28.85. Now I'm trying to cancel and must wait for 24-48 hours to enter the system @ www.customerstatus.com or call during open hours at 800-568-9392. Misleading.... Good luck.

  10. The website is very deceiving. you get no chance to confirm order before you are committed. You cannot cancel... you can't get through to them for 24 hrs so when you do it's too late. I was told they already shipped (we'll see). They are a very bad deceptive business. Do yourself a favor and wait until it appears at Walmart.

  11. Sooo glad I read up on this here, was about to buy a set. Didnt think much about the shipping, until i saw posters dividing the cost, 14 bucks each... Not a great deal after all with the FORCED sale of the second one. And LR444 Batteries? I dont even know those batteries existed or if i even spelled them right.

The item is designed to be a throw away... Do we want to buy "throw away goods"? We gotta stop buying crap like this and start making quality stuff ourselves again. Thinking twice about simple offers from now on, lesson learned with out having to bite in, thank you community!

  14. ALWAYS do a Google search and look for reviews BEFORE buying.

Home Shopping Network has them at 2 for $19.95. I'd buy from HSN rather then from the commercial contact #.

  15. I am very disappointed with the customer service I am receiving from this company. It has been over three weeks since I ordered the two as a Christmas gift, and it still has not shipped, or billed by card, after talking to the customer service department twice with empty promises that they would push the order through. I can't review the product, as I haven't received it. But I would definitely recommend ordering from another site (I think amazon has them) or waiting til they show up at Walmart.

  16. Whew......I had my wallet out ready to purchase. Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their experiences, so the rest of us don't fall into these types of traps. I'll wait for my local retailer [cvs, Walmart, Target] to sell it, at least if you don't like it you can return it.

  17. Found that Best Buy now carries these for about $10 each.

  18. The use of LR44 batteries makes this an expensive device to update. These pencil flashlights usually use AA or AAA batteries, long lasting and inexpensive. I can't same the same for LR44 batteries

  19. Wow! Glad I found this Site before I ordered. I'll settle for a "no"scope instead of an iscope! Thanks

  20. I have learned (the HARD way) to check out reviews prior to buying...sure pays off! Will wait for WalMart to carry them ~ because I still one one... ;)

  21. Thanks soooo much for entering your reviews here. I was all set to buy the iScope but then decided to see if there were any reviews of this product and the company selling it. The expensive batteries required are a deal-killer for me and being "forced" to accept a 2nd flashlight and pay a second S & H fee is a rip-off. I haven't ordered a product online or by phone in quite some time but your comments reminded me of the hassle they've previously put me through by trying to sell you additional products. It sounds like they've gotten even more obnoxious. If I wanted one, I'd try Best Buy. Thanks for the heads-up!!

  22. The iScope came today,(12 days after they shippen from Calf)and you thought pony express was dead))
They were packaged in a small cardboard container, each in a bubble rap tube. This was stuffed into a 6" X 8" bubble envelope. They were shipped by DHL to a post office and to me!
The light is prety much as advertised but the Free flashlight from Harbor freight is a lot brighter!!!I should have known better!!!!!

  23. Picked 2 up this morning from Walmart. 9.95 each. Actually a nice little flashlight. The LR-44 batteries are a bit of a bummer, but not expensive. Amazon has a 10 pack for 80 cents. or a Maxell 10 Pack for 2 bucks.
