My Latest Project: HD Vision Wraparounds

I recently helped launch a new item, so I thought I'd write a quick post about (since I can't review it on the blog).

The item is called "HD Vision Wraparounds," and it's an innovative twist on a proven catalog item: sunglasses that fit over prescription glasses. I think the item is going to be a winner, at least among people who wear glasses, because it solves a big problem: having to lay out $100 or more for prescription glasses. In any case, the twist here is that the lenses are "high definition." That's another name for lenses that block blue light, a style popularized by Joe Sugarman's BluBlockers, AJ Khubani's AmberVision sunglasses and Andy Khubani's HD Vision sunglasses.

These glasses, which are Andy's, seek to capitalize on the HD Vision brand while introducing the fit-over concept to DRTV viewers. And the bonus is even more unique than the product: night vision glasses that fit over prescription glasses.

In any case, you can check out the commercial at www.HDWraparounds.com. It's my project, but don't be afraid to let me know what you really think!

  1. Only a one page website that doesn't let you order the night vision separately if you want. The concept of "Free" night vision glasses is also misleading because of the extra shipping charge for these "Free" glasses. I didn't find any of the infomercial actors credible because it was so staged. Even though you offer a 30 day trial, your shipping costs more than cover your cost for the glasses so you really can't lose - good for you bad for the consumer. I was really intrigued but I don't like the feeling that I am being hustled.

  2. I agree with the hustle part. I think this company is a "rip off" company. The first thing they do is get your credit card number and as soon as you hit continue, you have already placed an order. There is no second chance. Also, after you place the "regular" order, then they try to get more $ out of you by offering you the "upgraded" version of the glasses for another $10 or so. I do not like doing business with companies like this. I had already ordered before I realized it. I am going to cancel my order tomorrow. I hope I don't have a difficult time cancelling. I anticipate that a company that operates like this will give me a hard time about cancelling my order. Also, they put the commercial on on the weekend. Their Customer Service Dept. is CLOSED on the weekend so you can't contact them after you place the order. I bet the glasses themselves are also worthless. I would not chance it if I were you. You would probably be better off buying some "real" sun glasses like Eagle Eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Eagle Eyes (which originally started as an infomercial product airing on weekends with those annoying upgrades) has an uglier version of this style of sunglasses called "Fit-Ons." They cost $40 plus $6 S&H. Meanwhile, their cheapest pair of low-light glasses, called StimuLights (which do not fit over regular glasses), cost $50 plus the S&H. You do not get them free with your order, with or without S&H. You have to pay the full price, and you don't even get a discount if you buy both.

So HD Vision Wraparounds are a much better deal, despite the inconveniences you mentioned. You can always say "no" to the upgrades, or wait until next month when these glasses come out at retail for $9.99 (and no S&H).

  4. The first thing I noticed when I went to their website was that they ask for your credit card number immediately. You do not have a chance to "review your order" before hitting a "place order" button. As soon as you put in your credit card number and hit continue you bought them. They do not even give you the total of your order. WARNING; BE VERY SURE YOU WANT THESE BEFORE YOU PUT IN YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER AND HIT CONTINUE BECAUSE ONCE YOU DO, YOU HAVE BOUGHT THEM....YOU HAVE BEEN HAD, TAKEN, RIPPED OFF, WHATEVER. They are a very unscrupulous company. I called this morning to cancel my order at 7:30. I was told my order was not yet in the system, even though I ordered them 2 days ago. I was told to call back in 2 hours, which I did. Then they told me that I would have to call back tomorrow, at which time I anticipate I will be told that it is too late to cancel my order. This is a very unscrupulous company. Buyer beware! Buy at your own risk.

    ReplyDelete
  5. This is just not true. I know this company very well. They will gladly refund any customer who is unsatisfied, no questions asked. Their Web sites also have an option at the end to cancel the order if the person experiences "buyer remorse." I would not work with a company that rips people off.

I welcome all feedback (even negative feedback), and I do not filter comments as a rule. But I'm going to ask that people please refrain from using my blog to spread misinformation.

  6. I usually have a problem buying something I cant feel, see, touch or try on. How big are these glasses? Will they look ridiculous on someone with a woman with a small thin face? Are they very dark? They must be, otherwise you would be able to see your glasses underneath. There's just not enough information. Also, I suspect that they just look cheap and chintzy, and kind of silly. I wouldnt tempt it, will wait until I see them in the
    store to try on.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Do they filter out uva/uvb rays? Its true, there's too many issues not addressed. Not good enough for me to buy without seeing first

    ReplyDelete
  8. I just saw the informercial and was about to place an order until I noticed there are no links to contact the company. How do you offer a 30 day warranty with no one to call. Also the infomercial on the website stops right at the instant that there should be a phone number. This says warning right away to me. I am afraid to give my credit card number to websites like that. The only way I would now is if they offered paypal or sell on ebay.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Unlike others on here, I am not afraid to post non-anonymously my unbiased opinion. First noticing the infomercial, I was intrigued, so went to the website. First off, after reading the blog postings by Jordan, I trust him and his judgment. BUT, on saying that, this website/product, regardless of whether or not they are legit or not (I cannot vouch either way yet) seems to LOOK & PERCEIVED to be a hustle. In marketing, espec' in today's world, perception is everything! Jordan, it would be wise for them to 1. redo the customer service options and 2. change the website's mechanisms in terms of the credit card processing. It seems to be too "hurried" and "rushed" for any dilligent/savvy consumer. They may be selling in bulk and have great returns, but like others posts on here so far, I am more of a skeptic and will not buy these based on my PERCEPTION of being rushed and it POSSIBLY looking like a quick hustle in terms of payment...Just my honest unbiased two cents, and not afraid to post under my real ID.

  10. Thanks, Skylar. I appreciate that. As for the parts of the Web site to which you are referring, I hear what you're saying. But those techniques work. HD Vision WrapArounds are a hit, and we are carefully monitoring the results to make sure we are not losing customers. As it turns out, we're not. Sales are very strong.

Thanks again for posting. I do appreciate the feedback.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sales must be really strong. It's the only reason I can think of for why every time I place an order, and get a confirmation, no record is created. I'm sure that customer service would be helpful if I could actually reach a person. Instead you get sent off to different web addresses one saying that they can't help with with the status of any order and the other stating that there is no record of me. I wish I was patient enough to try for a third time, both products looked like they'd really help while driving. Let me know when I'll be able to purchase the item a different way. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Brian, if you email me privately at jordan@scimarkgroup.com, I'll have someone from that company's customer service dept. contact you.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Jordan, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt but I purchased these sunglasses on 3/19/2008. I have tried repeatedly to contact this company with my order ID, to no avail, to find out where my order is. Customer service is a laugh with the never-ending runaround. It is virtually impossible to get a straight answer or a site that will let you leave a comment. I like to take advantage of on-line buying but like the others this appears to be a rip off. I guess the only recourse is the BBB and I can just imagine what they will have to say about this company.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I've looked it up, and the company actually has an excellent reputation with the BBB because they handle complaints in a timely and fair manner. As I've mentioned here, I don't work with unethical companies. I'm not sure what's happening in your case. However, if you email me privately at jordan@scimarkgroup.com with your info, I'll have someone from the company's customer service dept. contact you. And if you have a good experience, I hope you will post some positive feedback here as well.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ladies and gentlemen, I appreciate your comments, but I'm going to have to cut off the customer complaints at this point.

I've tried to help a few people by reaching out to the contacts I know, but this is not my job nor my purpose. Please bear in mind that this is a blog about direct-response marketing, not a customer service site for any one particular product. I am not an employee of any of these companies.

If you are a customer who has purchased one of the products I've written about, and you have questions or are dissatisfied, I recommend you try the usual methods for resolving your issue. Call the toll-free customer service number that appears on your credit card statement. Write to the address included in the confirmation email you received when you ordered the product. Etc.

That said, if you have any comments relevant to the content of this blog, I continue to welcome them.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You mentioned that the HD Wraparounds will be available in retail stores soon. Do you know when they are coming out and where they will be sold?

    ReplyDelete
  17. HD Vision WrapArounds are available at all major retailers (Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc.). If you don't see them at your local store, just wait a few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I ordered my pair on 4/26/2008 and just checked on the status of my order by clicking the "Track Your Order" link at the bottom of the web site and it says it was shipped via USPS on 5/15/2008 from Pacoima, California (I live in Maryland). I guess I'll get it sometime this week.

Jordan sounds to me like he's a genuinely honest person with integrity, which makes me feel good about his opinion about this product.

If I remember, I will come back and post my comments when I get the product in my hands. I am very demanding of product quality and workmanship, but not to the point of being unreasonable--this is a $20 item; I don't expect Saks 5th-Bloomingdale's-Nordstrom-Lord & Taylor high-end glasses.

I am very ticked, though, to find out I just paid $19.99 + $6.99 shipping (plus the extra $5.99 shipping for the "night vision" version) when it will be available at my local Wal-Mart for $9.99. That's life, I suppose.

For now, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt...hope I'll be happy because this product will be perfect for being out and about in these bright and sunny days. (I have older prescription sunglasses but my eyes have gotten worse in my older age...LOL! This will save me from having to buy another pair of $300 sunglasses--if I remember correctly [NOT cheap!]).

A word about the ordering process: I received a confirmation email shortly after I placed my order. It gave an "Order ID" number. This is NOT the same as the actual Order #. I had to get that from a person at their toll-free number. You need the latter to be able to track your order status. Sorry, she explained the difference between an Order ID number and a Order #, but I forgot what she said.

Also, they don't charge your card until the item ships--good news for those who change their minds prior to getting to "shipped" status.

  19. Has anyone seen actually seen these in a store. I want to get some for my dad's b-day on 5-27. Basically I just don't want to have to go to a bunch of stores looking for them. So if anyone has a specific chain I can buy them at I'd really appreciate it! Thank you so much!

  20. I came here looking around on the Web for opinions. My wife and I just got ours in the mail last night. We're happy with them, and it sure beats paying hundreds of dollars for Rx sunglasses or keeping track of those horrible clip-ons. Downsides: Shipping seemed to take forever, and the glasses look really big on my wife's face. But I think we'll both be happy with them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I got mine this past Tuesday, so it took a month from my order date to arrive. I have no clue why it took over two weeks to ship from California to Maryland...seemed excessive, but I got over it.

I like them--I just must get used to the form factor; that is, I'm used to the sleek, thin style of the frames. These are big and thick in the front and a little bit on the side. (And does kind of look oversized on my face.)

That aside, they fit nicely over my prescription glasses and the view through these is fantastic. They do their job of removing the glare and reflections like sunglasses are supposed to do.

The night vision ones were interesting. Not bad.

I have to say I'm very pleased and happy with my purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I just bought the HD vision sunglasses today at a Rite Aid store, and they're really good. They fit perfectly over my prescription glasses. And the view is very clear, I noticed an immediate difference upon putting them on, and this was during evening sunlight, when the sun is right in your vision. I am definitely pleased with these!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ok, all you naysayers! These glasses saved my life on a beach/boating vacation. I was able to use them over my regular prescription glasses, not wanting to risk losing my prescription sunglasses while boating on the lake. They were really comfortable & easy to use.

  24. I just went to the web site to order these glasses; I need the night vision for my husband.

The order process is down, so I called the toll free number, they have a message only Canadian orders can be taken at this time.

So I went back to the search page and found these sold at Harriet Carter's site

    http://www.harrietcarter.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/_/HD-Vision--HD-NightVision-Wraparounds/productID/ee9cceae-668d-4c43-9278-96661394bde7/categoryID/8d7f73b3-495d-4530-9155-1ba9d6058e29/

I called their toll free number.

I got both pairs and the visor clip for less than $26.00, a ten-dollar savings over the original site.

In addition, shipping should take less than two weeks.

I am adding this post because Jordan seems truly genuine, and he will get money from any site we buy them from.

So if someone is interested in these and wants to order them, go to the other sites that sell them.

I know that I can deal with HC's costumer service fairly easy, if these are not as promised.

Based on the excellent comments about these glasses, I decided to order them.

If anyone cares to notice, the glasses have great reviews; the company that has the infomercials is what the beef is about.

Jordan, I wish you the best. Moreover, I hope these work well, my husband desperately needs night vision help.

Oh and I am posting anomymous because I have to. I do not have a google blog, so it is not that I am hinding anything.

Fawn is my name, yarn is my game.

  25. I bought these..love them. bought them from home shopping network- got both pairs and clip shipped for $17.99 after using a 5% off coupon code. No hassles or scams and the glasses work. They are big but they fit over prescription glasses. The night vision ones do filter out glare.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I purchased the HD vision wraparound glasses for my mom at HarrietCarter.com. She loves them!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I haven't seen anyone post about buying the Upgraded "Deluxe" Glasses. I decided to do just that. You get a special Anti-Glare coding on the lenses and an added Cloth to clean them, a deluxe case, plus they are the Polarized Edition, also you get UVA and UVB protection. I hope they don't take a month to get them in the mail!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Using the "HD" acronym is totally misrepresentative. The only intent is to sucker people into assuming there is some clever technology that provides a higher definition view in a similar manner to HDTV. What a crock.

    ReplyDelete
  29. When on the HD site, if you hit the browser's "back" button you are taken to an on line only special offer - 14.99 + the two shipping charges for a 28.97 total. Once all the information is entered pressing the "order" button just brings you back to the window again - order info is never entered. Customer service can only sell to you @ the $19.99 price. Is it a "bait and switch"?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I purchased these sunglasses at a drugstore for about $20 sometime in late 2007 after getting new prescription glasses that didn't come with matching clip-on sunglasses (which my previous pair had). I've been very happy with them - until I scratched them. I've been having trouble finding them again locally, plus I would really like to try the night vision pair as I have trouble with night glare. I think I will check out the Harriet Carter site for them. I'll try to remember to post again here when I purchase them.

Jordan, thank you for providing this forum, even if it turned into something you hadn't wanted. It's helpful.

    Best wishes.

  31. Can someone answer the question, yes or no, if the regular pair block UV rays??? I just got a pair, they fit nice, nice glare reduction (not so much in full, direct sun light) but nothing says anything about UV, polarization etc. If I can't find anything, back they'll go. Do they, or don't, they block??

    ReplyDelete
  32. The HD vision sunglasses are available from Dr. Leonard's (catalog and probably also from their website) for just $9.99 and include the visor clip for your car. I just received mine and like them very much! No, they aren't high fashion, but so what? The goal is to be able to prevent sun damage to the eyes. The amber color does brighten how things look--it's not a false claim at all. It was interesting that most of the green traffic signals looked to be a beautiful shade of light blueberry.

I would think that these glasees probably wouldn't work for people with narrow faces and heads, though. I think they would slip right down over the top of their regular glasses. They are large.

The price is so very low on these glasses that they are certainly well worth it. I didn't want to pay a couple hundred dollars for prescription sunglasses, though I will probably shell out for them some time in the future. The ad for the glasses (in the catalog) says that they offer 100% UV protection, but I don't know if that's true.

    ReplyDelete
  33. my order was shipped to the wrong address. There is no phone number on any of my documents. Can anyone tell me what the number is?

    ReplyDelete
  34. HSN has both Night and Day wrap around, both for 17.95. I wonder why yours only nite vision only?

    ReplyDelete
  35. No. These do not offer UV protection.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I picked up a pair last night at walmart. Not bad.

Gotta love the "HD" buzzwording, though. This "technology" has been around for decades. You get the same effect when you use a UV Haze filter with a graduated amber/warming filter on a camera.

I wonder if Tiffen or Hoya should get into the infomercial sunglasses market. ;D

  37. jordan, you keep going on about how you know the company, and they take care of customer service, yet all these people who actually bought the item and dont work for the company are saying the exact opposite of you, shut up plz

    ReplyDelete
  38. I recently saw the ad on television for the as seen on tv hdvision sunglasses and night glasses. I was curious so I went onto google to see if these glasses really worked. I even ordered 2 pairs from http://www.hdvisionusa.com because they have an offer for a free pair of night vision glasses. I must say I am really pleased with my purchase. In my opinion these sunglasses actually work and the night glasses are perfect for driving at night. www.HDVISIONUSA.COM was really helpfull with their customer service and shipping was really fast. I suggest at least trying these sunglasses and taking advantage of the free night vision glasses that hdvisionusa.com is offering as well as their 30 day money back guarantee. A++ in my opinion. Now time to try the slap chop, hahaha
